Fountain was built in 1859 as a railroad shipping center and later incorporated in 1900. It was named for Fountain Creek which flows south through the area. Fountain was chosen as “America’s Millennium City” in 1999, then named an “All-America City” in 2002. Living by the motto “Pure Colorado”, Fountain is the proud home of Pikes Peak International Raceway. “The Blast” is a great train wreck of 1888 that remains a legendary event in city history, commemorated with a street dance every July in Fountain’s City Hall Plaza.
